October Daily 2022 Days 04 Through 06

Hi friends and welcome back to October Daily 2022! We have had some fun days this month and I am so excited to share a few more days with you from this album! Today I have Days 04 through 06 for you, and it’s going to be a fun ride so buckle up. You can follow along with all of the inspiration and progress of this album project with this link: October Daily 2022.

Day 04 | River and all the Glasses:

The story for this day gave us tons of laughter and silliness, and it is precisely these kinds of stories that inspire me to participate in this project! Last year I had set out the boo masks so that folks could stop by and chat and play, and this year I’ve added these little silly glasses from Target. They are pumpkins and cats and bats and River came home from school, saw them, and decided to put them all on. So I had this progression of photos (and silliness) that I wanted to get into this album somehow. A few years ago Ali Edwards did a similar layered heart in her December Daily, and I remembered I had this cut file from The Cut Shoppe: Heart and Soul Cut File. That would be the jumping off point along with the October Lane collection for this layout!

The first thing I had to do was adjust the cut file so I could use it like this. I brought it into Photoshop and used the Lasso tool to trace the hearts I wanted, and then created clipping masks for my photos from those hearts. I did them in half sections so each side of each heart could have its own photo or patterned paper. Then I saved them as PNG’s and sent them off to the Silhouette to print and cut. Once they were cut, I adhered the sides together and as you can see, unsuccessfully tried to sew these layers together. Ha! I have talked about how I like to print photos and collections on photo paper because it makes the colors pop so well, but it does have its draw backs. That draw back, as I found out here, was that the sewing machine does not like more than two or so layers of photo papers, and also these papers don’t really like to be folded. No worries, as I mentioned in my process video, I powered through all of the challenges and made this work. In the interest of keeping on going with the project, I am embracing these imperfections and choosing to love this layout because it is still such a cute page!

Day 05 | Product Tags:

Day 05 didn’t really have a great story or anything significant, but we had been doing some shopping here and there so I decided to do a divided 2×2 page with some of our product tags. This is a page idea I’ve done many times over the years, and it never gets old!

My usual process for these types of layouts is to cut down the product tags to 2×2 wherever possible, smaller if that’s what works, and then wherever there is writing I cover that up with embellishments. Two things I did in this page that I particularly love is the sideways and cropped 5, and the ghost cropped in half going across two pockets. Some of the stores we found these little gems were Target, Homegoods, and Michaels. I also used embellishments from Pebbles, Studio Calico, and the 5’s are from my stash.

Day 06 | Zoe the Cat:

For this day I chose a photo of our cat Zoe, who is always getting in the middle of whatever we are doing to check things out. As soon as we pulled out the Halloween decorations, sure enough, there she was on top of the boxes! Recently Krystal Idunate released her digital Halloween collection called Frankie’s Halloween, and this was the perfect kit to help tell this story! Here you can see the layout next to the back of Day 05, those product tags. I just love all the details in this spread!

When Zoe jumped up on those boxes, she was of course up there to try and be the tallest in the room (ha!) and so I knew I wanted to keep everything very vertical on my page. The split page protector with two 3×8 pockets helps make that happen! I added one of the digital stamps from Frankie’s Halloween to bring attention to Zoe, and then the embellishments on that side of the page cascade from there. I made the title very vertical as well, using alphabet stamps from Hero Arts. I made them messy on purpose, to represent Zoe’s personality. The little banners at the top left made the perfect home for Monstruo, the cat who is a major part of this digital kit. Monstruo is perfect to represent Zoe, I feel they would be kindreds. For the number, I chose a transparent number 6 (probably also Elle’s Studio) and it is housed on the tag. The spider web and candy corn stickers are from Elle’s Studio.

That is all I have for today! This month is flying by, but I am keeping my pace of three layouts in this album per week. How about you? Are you working on your October Daily this month? I will be back soon, see you then!
