Light the Path Design Team Junell Kruzel | June 2021 Prompt BeYOUtiful
Hello Light the Path friends! It’s Junell here! We are at the halfway point in the Light the Path workshop and I don’t know about you, but I’ve had so many enlightening, ah-ha moments and truths revealed to me. Everything from grounding practices, meditation, and very specific journaling prompts have led me and guided me on my healing journey. Just having the support of others in this workshop has been a tremendous help to me, too. I’ve seen growth in myself and in other members of this community and that can all be attributed to Theresa and the hard work she’s done to create a safe and nurturing, yet challenging and growth oriented workshop. And, it’s been fun too, playing with all the digital elements and making them my own. All the designers have created such amazing digitals to use.
So, let’s jump into the June content and I’ll show you what I’ve created this month!
The June prompt was all about naming one beautiful thing about yourself that is your power. Something that is about you, and not something that is in relation to someone else, like being a good wife, etc… Theresa says, “It’s an act of rebellion to believe in yourself when you exist in a society that wants you to think you’re not pretty enough, skinny enough, or smart enough.” That thought really stuck with me. For me, society says I’m not extroverted enough. I am most definitely not a “Whoo-Hoo!” girl; I’m deep and thoughtful and introspective and to others I suppose it looks like I’m too quiet or not friendly enough. But, that’s not true. I love going deep in conversations and want to go below surface level because I care deeply and that is most definitely a strength and one thing that is beautiful about me.
I got messy again this month with some Distress Oxides. I used the new Salvaged Patina color for the background because I wanted the peachy-pink tones of the digital elements to pop off the page and stand out. I love Mandy Ford’s digital designs this month!
For the title, I went with the theme of One Beautiful Thing, and I cannot look at the word “beautiful” without thinking Be You. So, I hand drew the letters Y, O, and, U so they would stand out and be sort of a focal point of the title. I raised them up with some foam on the back and then took a Thicker of the word Beautiful and cut it apart to add to YOU to make the title.
I should mention that the photography prompt for this month was to take a series of selfies and then play with filters. This was so much fun! I used Instagram and the PicFrame app to create my photo collage. I thought these pictures captured the essence of my contemplative, introspective nature.
I then fussy cut out all the pretty florals and rainbows and sun and arranged them how I liked it. I added my journaling by typing it out and then cutting it into strips and adhered them to the page. I also added some hand stitching because I’m obsessed with that lately and also added some enamel dots for a whimsical vibe. I’m thinking this might be my favorite project so far.
What is one beautiful thing about yourself? I hope you give that some thought this month. Thank you for reading! You can find me on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/junell.kruzel/?hl=en
