Hi friends and welcome back to my 2021 Project Life! Last week I shared my opening layout for this album project and this week we will swim right into January. I am creating two layouts for the month of January and calling it bi-monthly, so you know anyone else who is doing Project Life this way? This way has been working out really well for me over the last few years, and I’m excited to continue doing what works this year. If you’d like to see more of this project, check out this link: 2021 Project Life. Also be sure to follow us on the blog so you can receive the updates in your email. Link is in the right sidebar.

I have been subscribing to the Cocoa Daisy kits this year, and for this layout I have used the New Chapter kit. I loved the subtle colors, the happy florals, and the messages that related to a new year and a fresh outlook. It also has a beautiful monthly card that I plan to use each month! Our stories for this month were fairly typical for this time of year: putting together Christmas presents, putting away Christmas decorations, Emberlynn’s birthday, and any other photos that I had taken.

I have been doing Project Life for just about 8 years now, and have gotten into a good groove for what works for me. I like to repeat themes and colors, and alternate cards and photos so you can mostly predict how the layout is going to come together. This helps me make decisions about each layout more easily and I don’t get stuck somewhere. You can see on the left hand page how I have alternated journal cards in the 3×4 cards across the center. I always place the title card at the upper left hand corner. The other 4×6 pockets typically hold more photos.

Once the basic placement is decided, the fun of adding embellishments and stickers can begin. For this layout, I layered a part of a journal card over top of the floral card to have space for words. I also really loved the calendar card. I highlighted the dates for this layout using a plain old highlighter, and then added just a few enamel dots for fun!

I have kept the embellishments on my photos to a minimum for this spread. I added a small label to Nick’s photo that explained what in the world is going on. He had asked for a gaming chair for Christmas and we were helping him put it together! So fun! The other embellishment is at the top of the bottom photo, also as a simple explanation of what is going on in that photo as well.

The right hand side feels more like I hit my stride during the process, and also shares a bit more journaling for the page. While the title card lives on the left side, the right lower pocket holds a more detailed journaling card. The 3×4’s continue the alternating journaling and photos.

We celebrated Emberlynn’s birthday! I added another very functional label to her photo so that we could remember how old she turned that year. So much fun! I loved using the enamel dots as a glittery touch to the simplest filler card underneath. Those enamel dots are amazing!

I always say that every layout needs a little black and white, and this polka dot card does that with a punch! I added a small chipboard piece in yellow, and then I repeated that yellow on the journal card at the very bottom. The journal card is my favorite! Just like I had done on the left side, I again layered a grid over top of that lovely floral to make space for words. This is so eye-catching, using the puffy alphabet to begin the sentence, right? This balances the title card at the top left.
