Hello my friends!
I am so glad you’re here! I’m so excited to be sharing my first official project and blog post with you! 2020 is behind us and now I feel like we can move onward to better things! When I first saw the artwork for the Light The Path January prompt, I was blown away! It gave me such a feeling of joy and happiness. The rainbows, bright colors, and cheeriness is much needed. Nef Zambrano did a fabulous job! Hey, if you’d like to see more of what our Design Team has created using the Light The Path prompts, check out our link here: Light The Path 2021 Design Team.
Theresa’s Photography Exercise video really hit home with me. She encourages us to take selfies! Which, I do on a pretty regular basis anyway. But when she said that, “eventually the self-acceptance starts to show up” a lightbulb went off for me. Selfie taking is not a narcissistic, “look how beautiful I am” practice. It helps you to see yourself for who you truly are…a wonderful human being. It is a tool to help us see ourselves as others do. Make-up or no make-up, hair styled or under a hat, glasses or no glasses, pajamas or a fancy dress…you are wonderful. Period.
One of the prompts this month is “I am ready for…” and I answered that by writing it in the arches of the rainbows. I just had to find a way to use the rainbows! And then I tried to get a little “artsy” and experiment with the rainbow paper. I ripped the paper and then used gold embossing powder to emboss the edges and I love how it turned out! I enjoy the contrast of the elegant gold on the rugged ripped paper. I added some ripped pink vellum behind it for some texture and also used jumbo number stamps to emboss the year and fussy cut out the numbers. And can we talk about that quote! It’s absolutely perfect for this month’s prompts and I wanted it front and center in my project.
This month Theresa also challenges us to journal 5 things about ourselves that we are proud of concerning our character, personality, and strengths. (Not the roles we play.) This was hard. I really had to spend some time pondering. I even googled character traits to get my mind going. I was able to come up with more than five once I started writing.
So, now I needed to find a way to complete the right side of my page and I just love it when inspiration strikes! If the left side was what I wanted for myself for 2021, then the right side would be the positive qualities I already possess and then I can add a variety of selfies to bring it full circle! So, I went through my camera roll and selected six selfies that I like. Then I added the journaling on the Thoughts card.
I tied the two pages together by ripping and then gold embossing the edges of the rainbow paper just like I did on the left side and placing them in the corners of the page. These are 6×8 pages and I’m going to purchase a special album just for my Light the Path layouts. It will be so interesting to see the growth at the end of 2021!
