Light the Path 2021 Design Team Zakirah Zakaria | Our Greatest Gift

Hi everyone! Zakirah here from Light the Path design team and today, I would like to share with you my project for December. I can’t believe that this is my last project for Light the Path. It felt like it was just yesterday when I first started with this workshop. Our last theme is Our Greatest Gift. The kit that we’ll be using this month is designed by the awesome Allison Pennington. I just love the winter-y colour palette in this kit which I think is perfect for this theme. Here’s a preview of my pages:

For my first page, I included some of the photos that I took since the beginning of the workshop. This is part of our photography prompt this month where Theresa encouraged us to include our favorite photos from this workshop, starting with the first prompt until the last one. Initially, I wanted to include photos from all twelve months but since I’m doing this project in 8″x8″ size (which is kind of small), I decided to include only six. I turned some of the photos into black and white for visual contrast and embellished the page with papers, cards and elements from Allison’s kit. I also used a floral paper by Lori Starcher of LJS Designs at the top of left pocket.

For my second page which is part of a spread, I added a journaling from my workbook exercise this month, which is about how I have advocated for myself this year. It’s great to reflect back on the positive actions that we have taken to advocate for ourselves in this healing journey. Next to the journaling card, I included of a recent photo of my little family. For the rest of the pockets, I added a card from Allison’s kit and the paper from LJS Designs. Then I finished it off with elements by Allison and glitter paint by Valorie Wibbens.

I continued adding the journaling from the same workbook exercise on the last page. Next to it is a recent photo of myself standing at the Sky Deck of Kuala Lumpur Tower, which is one of the skyscrapers in Malaysia. I filled the small square pockets next to the photo with a card by Valorie Wibbens. For the pockets at the bottom, I used cards and papers by Allison (the one with a flower is from September kit). The last square pockets were filled with a pink patterned paper from this month’s kit. Finally, I embellished the page with word bits by Allison (“December” and “Believe”) and Soco (“Inhale Exhale” and “One Day at a Time”). I kept my embellishments minimal this month so the beautiful cards would take the center stage and I love how it turned out.

So those are my last pages for this workshop. Wow, it has been such an incredible journey and experience! I have never completed an album which documents each month of the year so this is a huge accomplishment for me. I am so grateful to be part of this workshop and sharing my healing journey here.
