Hi everyone! Zakirah here and I am so happy to share my June project for Light the Path.

Time flies so fast, and I can’t believe that we’re already halfway through this workshop. Which means, our healing journey album is halfway done (how exciting!). I hope that you’re feeling proud of yourself, seeing the progress that you’ve made thus far.  To be honest, when I started this journey on Light the Path, I didn’t think that I would be able to get this far. One of my struggles with bipolar disorder is the challenge to finish what I have started, so this is a good progress for me. And this month’s theme, which is “One Beautiful Thing”, is just perfect to celebrate my progress.

This month, we are doing a mid-year check in by reflecting on and celebrating our progress in this healing journey. We’ll document one beautiful thing about ourselves and for me, it is my commitment to self-healing. We have Mandy Ford who designed the perfect kit to document this theme. The colour palette in this kit reminds me of dawn, which is synonymous with a new day, new beginnings, and rising. Check out the preview of my project:

As usual, I begin my monthly project with an opening page. I love the card with “I am safe here” written on it and I think it’s perfect as an opening. Affirming that we are in a safe space is important to help soothe ourselves. To me, it also means that I am safe to be myself. Here, I also used various stickers from this month’s kit.  Finally, I complement the stickers with some realistic leaves, glitter scatters, and paint splatters from Cultivate collection by The Lilypad designers.

On the next page, I used more cards and stickers from the kit. I think the cards are absolutely gorgeous with the painted details. On the left side of the page, I placed several stickers and embellishments. I also included the title of this month’s theme and in the 3×4 section, I included the one beautiful thing about myself, which is my commitment to healing. For this month’s photography prompt, Theresa encouraged us to take a few selfies in front of the mirror. I used an old photo that I took a few years ago because I wanted to document how I have progressed in this journey. This photo represents the girl that I was, who was afraid of falling in love. On the journaling card next to this photo, I wrote down a quote by Theresa which I found to be significant and want to remind myself again in the future.

The next page is where I document where I am today in my healing journey. I included my wedding photo because it symbolizes growth and courage. Nobody knew how scared and nervous I was on my wedding day. I am thankful to myself for having faith in opening this new chapter in life. It took a lot of courage for me to decide to get married. At the bottom of the page, I included a photo of me and my baby which symbolizes another milestone in my life. I included the “Loved”, “Growth” and “Breakthrough” wordarts on a lightly patterned card, which I created using a paper from Cultivate collection and applied a brown color overlay effect.

So that’s my June project. I hope you find it inspiring. I enjoyed going through the workshop contents this month as it allowed me to reflect on my positive qualities. I think it’s so important that we take the time to do this periodically as a way to remind ourselves of our strengths. You can still join us in the workshop by clicking on this link. I hope to see you there. Let’s light the path together.
