Hi everyone! Zakirah here and today, I would love to share what I have created with this month’s Light the Path digital suite. If you haven’t joined us yet in the workshop, click here to subscribe and just jump right in! Alright, so let’s continue with my project.
Usually I would share my pocket pages, but this time is a bit different. I created an art journal as I followed through the suite and prompts using the kit designed by Neftali Zambrano. Don’t you just love the gorgeous colour palette? It’s so rich and vibrant.
Following through this month’s Art Journaling video, I started the page with a subtly-patterned white paper and used digital brushes to paint some colours onto the background. Then I added some glitter splatters to add shine and glimmer to the page. I layered two of Neftali’s cards together with the one designed with “Emotions flow through us like a river” quote on top. Then I layered a black lace, string ribbon and heart paper strip below the cards. Above the cards I layered a few flowers by Sara Gleason.
The theme for this month is “Honor Your Emotions”. As a person living with trauma in the past, I find that it can be quite challenging to connect with my own emotions. I have always felt like they run in the background, and in my consciousness, I would scan for others’ emotional states and would absorb them as mine. So it’s easy to feel disconnected with my genuine self sometimes. In the Guided Visual Meditation suite, I followed through the meditation exercise and was guided to quieten my inner chatters and focus on my current emotional state. Below you can see the three emotions that I was feeling at the time: Relieved, concerned, and hopeful:
On the bottom right side of the page, I added a word strip from Neftali’s kit and two strips from my stash (designed by Sara Gleason). I tucked in a wave paper strip behind the word strips. Finally, I finished it off with a pink butterfly on top.
I love the whole process of getting in touch with my emotions and documenting it creatively. I always look forward to go through the contents in Light the Path each month as I find them helpful in my healing journey. I think this is one of the best workshops for healing with arts, especially scrapbooking. If you want to join us, click here and take your first step in this therapeutic workshop. Let’s light the path together.
