IMP Design Team Melinda Staley | Sweet Summer
I hope everyone’s summer is off to a good start! Looking through The Practical Scrapper kit Summer Break, my attention focused on the music notes, berries, and camera in the stickers and cards – all things that reminded me of the senses hearing, tasting, and seeing, which also made me think about Meg’s Week 3 challenge in the IMP Collab Life Stories Class at the beginning of the year. So I decided to do a beginning of summer page focusing on the senses. I’ve seen several grid style pages recently in my various places I go to for inspiration, so I just went with that style of page and put together my own template to fill in as I built my page.
– I reduced the size of some of the full papers so that more of the pattern would show around the edges of the photos blocks, and filled in the other blocks with cards leaving white space for my journaling.
– I added a stitched border on the page and one on the center square.. One of the inspiration pages I was using had stitched all of the grid squares down, but I decided that having the patterned paper borders on the other squares was enough visually.
-I wanted a ‘handwritten’ look for the title, so I used the Magic Wand tool to select the black letters from the sticker words and copied them onto new layers without the sticker border.
– The music notes element I liked on the card was not included as a sticker, so to match the other blocks I made a sticker with the digital scrapping version of fussy cutting. I selected the notes with the Magic Wand tool, expanded the selection area by 8 pixels with Select> Modify > Expand, and then copied it to its own layer.
– I tried using the camera card the way it was, but the aqua color top was getting lost on the background mat of the same color, so I cut the camera circle out of the card and covered the aqua top of the card with a strip of red polka dot paper.
-I used a stamped style font to add a date to the title area and titles for each of the journaling blocks.
