IMP Design Team Melinda Staley | Go See Do

Hi everyone, Melinda here today saying Welcome to May! It is hard to believe we are already this far into the year, isn’t it? While it has been so pretty outside with all of the grass greening up, and the flowers blooming everywhere that also means the pollen levels are sky-high so I try to only spend the time I absolutely have to outside currently. My girls took some time to walk down to the reservoir we live near and did a fun little photoshoot with their phones to document their time together on this birthday weekend for Brenna, and then they shared them with me – I always appreciate when they do that!

This month’s new release by The Practical Scrapper, Discover Life, was perfect for recording it. The colors matched nicely and there was just the right amount of outdoor phrases and ones that appreciated the time spent in this moment of sisterly togetherness.

I chose a Pocket Stories template from Soco Designs to work with for this page. I particularly liked the mix of smaller square pockets in the upper left portion of the page with the 4×6 pockets that let my favorite photos shine and give me a spot for a title area.

I kept the embellishments simple for this page. I added a small gold sequin scatter from a retired Rachel Jefferies kit, Wings Unfolded, and chose to use some elements from the template that I left ‘as-is’ (the white enamel heart pin) or with a slight tweak of recoloring magic with the color replace tool (the “this is us” round circle tag).

I definitely wanted to use the Go See Do card on the page, but found that the white background of the page caused it be a bit lost in the sea of white, so I added one of the patterned papers from the kit behind the pocket layers as a background anchor and to help the white background cards and bordered photo stand out. I thought it was a bit much though and missed the white border too, so reducing the size of the paper slightly to leave a white border around the whole page was my compromise solution.

I cut the words from a bordered word strip in the IMP Theme Parks 3 Kit, choosing to just trim the colored edge off rather than recoloring the edge. This kept the profile of the word strip more elongated and in better proportion to the other word strips I was using from the Discover Life kit helping make it look more like a part of it.

My final touches to the card at the bottom of the page were adding a custom shadow on the butterfly sticker to give a lifted wing look and adding a folder tab with a ‘stamped’ date using a font and attaching it to the page with a staple from Kim Jensen.
