IMP Design Team Maribeth Lysen | Celebration Pocket Pages
I adore this collection “Celebration” from the Practical Scrapper but I did’t have have birthday photos to scrap right now (boo!) so I challenged myself to use it on a non-birthday layout. I do plan to use it in a few weeks after my mom’s birthday celebrations. I can’t wait to use the balloon animal cards, they are just too cute for words! But for now, I wanted to use it to document a week in February that I was working on.
I am a hybrid scrapper, so I start my layout designs in Photoshop CC using a 9×12 template I made myself that matches the pocket pages I use from Scrapbook.com. This week, my photos had a ton of blues so it was easy to pull all the cards with blue from this collection into Photoshop. My photos also had some pops of pink so next I grabbed the pink cards and papers as well and that kicked off the foundation of my layout.
This month there are new fun templates to use from Dunia Designs in the shop. My favorite was the heart template in The Basics 3×4 templates Vol. 2 and it was prefect to use for my photo of the day we woke up to snow. Snow isn’t all that common here, and not at all typical for this late in February, so I wanted to be sure to document our tiny snowfall in this week’s layout. To do that, I used the heart template, added paper 12×12 number 2 from the Celebrations collection, and then placed my photo in the heart. I added paper 12×12 number 8 also from the Celebrations collection to the journaling strips and then printed out the card. Once printed, I added a puffy snowflake sticker from Coca Daisy and this card was done. Using a template makes scrapping a breeze. So if you haven’t used templates, give them a go!
I added journaling to the journaling cards and then printed everything out. I didn’t necessarily have a big story to tell this week, so when that happens, I opt for a note-style journaling card with a weekly round up. The 6×4 number 4 journaling card from Celebrations was perfect for this journaling style.
Sometimes layouts don’t come together as easily as I’d like despite my Photoshop planning and this layout was one of those layouts that I fussed and fussed with once I had all the cards printed. My photos are pretty dark this week, and when that happens, I almost always have a harder time. (Anyone else wishing desperately for spring and for the light to return?) My workaround this week was to add a white boarder to a few of the photos. Next I made sure I had some bright pops of color like with this 3×4 number 6 card from the kit. I did recolor a couple of the stripes in the sunburst using the color picker in Photoshop CC to select the lighter peach color and the lighter blue used in the collection on other cards. This allowed me to better incorporate the card in my layout. Being able to recolor things is one of my favorite parts of using digital products. I love how this card helps to brighten up my layout and it ended up being my favorite part of the layout.
