December Daily 2021 Days 15 through 17
Hi friends and welcome back to December Daily! I am working on my 2021 album this month, and today I am excited to share Days 15 through 17 with you! This is such an extra special project, created by Ali Edwards years ago to help document one story per day throughout the month of December. My hope is to share this project with you every Friday here on the blog, and you can catch the videos on my YouTube channel on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays as well! If you’d like to see all the blog posts leading up to today’s post, check this link: December Daily 2021.
December Daily 2021 Day 15 | The Nutcracker Ballet With Sahlin Studio December Digital Kit and Silhouette Cut Files From La La Shiba and Illustration Ink
The story for this layout was our date night to see the Nutcracker for the very first time! We absolutely loved it and I came away with so many fun ideas for this page. I went over to the Silhouette Design Store and found these adorable Nutcracker inspired characters from Lala Shiba. I created the page in Photoshop with a really basic grid design and then printed and cut the background pages with the ovals to make spinners! I used two photos from our evening, taken on the street outside the venue, and then filled in the extra spaces with patterned papers and a journal card from the Sahlin Studio December digital kit. This kit was perfect for this story! And I absolutely adore the spinners. Such a fun element in the album!
I also wanted to big title, and originally I was going to put the title in the center going across the page, but there really wasn’t space for it. So I brought in the star overlay, and created my title with these fabulous Nutcracker Alphabets from Illustrated Ink. All of this worked out so cool and I’m so happy with how it turned out.
Day 16 | Big Money with Traci Reed Candy Coated Christmas
This is a story inspired by my childhood years spent in Germany. I used to love the chocolate coins! Ok, I still love them (ha!) and always try to put them in the kids’ stockings for good luck. We were like little children when we found these giant ones! So I made this page for this story, and it fits perfect because it reminds me of the sugar plum fairies bringing goodies in the Nutcracker. The photos for this story were actually taken after Christmas, and it made me realize that there are some stories from after Christmas that are perfect for our albums. So don’t be afraid to include those!
This page was so easy to pull together, because it is simply a mirror of what I did on the front. Same grid, same alternating photo with patterned paper. I decided to use Traci Reed’s Candy Coated Christmas with this story, because it also fits perfect! I created my title, Big Money, with the alphabets in the digital kit and layered that over top of that gorgeous green plaid. I used the green frame layered on top of the striped patterned paper for my journaling, along with that adorable red Jeep! And then my number is one of the digital stamps in this collection, layered on top of a red background and placed on top of the Santa paper. They are so cute!
Day 17 | The One Where We Un-decorated the Christmas Tree
My story on this day was about how we decorated the tree, starting with this black and white plaid ribbon. And once we started adding the other decorations, I decided I didn’t really love that ribbon, so we took all the decorations and the ribbons off the tree, purchased different ribbons, and started all over again! Ha! I began this layout with a template from the Ali Edwards December Daily release last year: December Daily 2021 Digital 10×8 Layered Templates. This layout also utilizes the digital patterned papers from the Traveler’s Notebook by In A Creative Bubble, and the Digital Shipping Tags. The puffy stickers are from last year’s Paislee Press Mini Kit, and the number 17 is Studio Calico.
I adjusted the digital template quite a bit to suit what I wanted to do, and it was kind of just how it evolved as I was working on it in Photoshop. I figured out I really just wanted the word art and the large photo. The digital template also has room for the journaling at the bottom, but I felt like the journaling really needed a home base. So I added the tag behind it, and then I knew I would want to add the day number, so I duplicated that tag at the top, and that is how this page design came about. Once I printed everything, it was super easy to adhere everything down and finish this page!
That is all I have for today! Next week we will get up into the 20’s with this album, and that puts me about two weeks away from completion. Thanks so much for following along with me, I will see you again soon.
