Art Journal With Me | Your Own Special Light
Hello everyone and welcome back! I am so ready to get back into the groove of things after the holidays. This page started really with that large floral art from the Celebrate collection from Pinkfresh Studio and Altenew. This collection was so dreamy, and the giant floral was perfect for fussy cutting. I also grabbed just a few acrylic paints that I thought would match with the paper, and am using Canson brand mixed media paper as my background.
To begin, I painted my background using the pink and green acrylics. I made the background similar to the way the floral background, with very simple swashes of paint and then splatters. The green was a bit bright, but two ways to help: add more water to dilute the color on the page, and lift a bit of the paint back off of the page using a paper towel. It’s still a bit bright, but once you add the other elements to the page it looks like a monochromatic version of the other greens on the page.
Once my paint was dry, I added a bit of stamping. I’ve used the Pinkfresh ink cubes and the Celebrate floral stamp on my page. This adds a bit more depth to the background, and also gave me the chance to use that floral stamp! It is stunning!
I also cut out the floral, as I had in my head all along. I have seen several other designers cut this floral too, and every time it looks prettier and prettier. It also happens to be the perfect size for my layout. This is serendipity for sure.
Now that all the prep work is done, all that is left is to glue everything down. I used my tape runner to adhere the floral element and then layered the alphabet stamps directly on top. The words read: You bring your own special light.” Using the white puffy alphas was the absolute correct choice, as it allows the words to pop a bit but still fits with the page.
