Hello Lovelies and welcome back to my Art Journal Series. On Wednesdays of each week I share a page from my journal with you, no process video just step out instructions. You can also see a fun share of this layout on my Instagram stories so be sure to follow along here: Light The Path Art Journal With Me. Today I was inspired by these stunning rainbow puffy stickers from Elle’s Studio, so that became my jumping off point.
I started off by prepping my page, first I layer a few pages together using matte medium, and then gesso over the spread with gesso. I added a bit of washi tape to the edges as well, this time using a black and white one from my stash. This helps hold these pages together a bit and also looks fun when the book is closed.
I tore a few strips of patterned paper, one in black and white, another wood grain, and adhered them to the page with the matte medium and gesso combined. These papers are from Elle’s Studio You Are Loved release in February 2020. Notice how the gesso now makes all these elements all come together.
I then added the heart and star stamps from the Elle’s Studio stamp set with black Archival ink, just at different places around the pages. Again with black and white, which will become a great neutral background for the colorful rainbows coming right up!
For the painted rainbow, I used some very basic acrylic paints and a wide brush. The paints I used were Hobby Lobby brand Master’s Touch in the tube, but you could use any kind of acrylic or watercolor. You could use any color combination you wanted, and make your rainbow however you like.
I already knew what I wanted the page to say: Love Yourself First. The Elle’s Studio release had these amazing teal transparent alphabets and they are perfect for this page. They are a great size on the layout and they pop beautifully against the background. This page serves as a reminder to me and all of us that we are our best selves when we truly love ourselves first. This takes practice, hard work, and self awareness every single day. I love having this colorful reminder in my journal.
And then, the magical rainbow puffy stickers. I added just three at the ends or beginnings of my words, three that create a visual triangle and add such color and happiness to this page! Thank you so much for joining me today! I hope you are inspired to create. See you again soon!
