Hey scrappy friends! Meg back today to share one of my projects from the August 2021 Light The Path workshop. I know that this is often the time of year that annual projects can start to drop off but watching my album fill page by page is so motivating—we are well past the midpoint now, so let’s stick it out together, K?
From seasons to school years, August is traditionally marked as a period of change. This month Theresa invited us to envision the changes we want to see and remap our future lives. I’ve always been a planner but even I was surprised by what I identified through the exercises. It turns out my long-term goals can be summed up by a commercially produced puffy sticker: live more, worry less. I’m sure there are worse (and less adorable) mediums to pull a life mantra from!
Speaking of surprises, one of the more trivial side effects of committing to the LTP workshop this year is Theresa dragging me into the world of mixed media. The ‘THRIVE’ card was available in multiple colorways from the coordinating digitals this month and I actually chose the black text on white with the intention of adding some very simple artsy stuff. On purpose! Will wonders never cease?
I kept a bit of a lighthearted vibe going on the right side through the Photo Prompt. The idea was to take selfies in the morning, before donning the makeup and accessories and accoutrement that we need to face the world each day. The thing is, I am NOT a morning person. At all. Ever. So if you really want an unfiltered pic of me in the AM, there are two moods to choose from: grumpy or sarcastic. I feel like I really managed to convey this story through my eyes this month…
Morning grumbles aside, a lot of the things that Theresa discussed resonated hard and I once again found myself adding a workshop quote to my album. The connections between identity and dreams and plans and reality can be messy and complicated. This month I needed the reminder to step back, take a deep breath, and recognize that a lot of the external factors of my life do not define my me-ness. Also, I apparently wanted you all to really look me in the eye here to understand the strength of my dislike for mornings.
That moment when there are these gorgeous rainbow speckled bird cards but ‘early bird’ imagery goes against everything you have recently decided to embrace about yourself…darn it, I loved the card so in it went with a little added sass. I’d said on the previous page that I’m striving to be brighter and bolder and live on my own terms, so why not apply it right now!?
At two-thirds of the way through the 2021 Light The Path workshop, I’m increasingly appreciative of how it adapts each month to exactly what I needed at the time. This spread turned out colorful and a little silly but the heart of it addresses some big truths I’ve been working through all year. There are still four months left to encounter and I am feeling up for the challenge!
