IMP Spring Blog Team Melinda Staley | February pages

Melinda here on the blog today, wondering where the year is going already. Anybody else with me? February went by in a blur and I’m already playing catch up with layouts since we are now well into March somehow. So I sat down and just decided to get it done. While I usually let my photos dictate what products I use to scrap them, this time the Paper Hum Rise Up cards struck my fancy to go with my February photos. Spring grass and blooms start to appear where I live in mid-February, so the greens and butterflies seemed like a theme that would work for the month, even though it isn’t the typical love-type scrapping product.
As I started to work with the cards I wanted more coordinating ones as I don’t typically only scrap a single page when I have lots of photos. Dunia Design’s 3×4 Templates Volume 2 gave me some options to make more decorative cards using pieces of the cards in the set. I am so thankful I can cut up digital cards as many times as I want and never run out! I made several versions of the cards in different orientations once I got started.

I was dealing with a whole month of photos and while I covered the major “events” like Valentine’s Day pretty easily with one or two photos on the first two pages, I still had a bunch of more random ones that I wanted to include without having to make more than one more page – food, another doctor visit, watching Olympics photos I couldn’t pick from, etc. Dunia Designs’ 3×4 Templates Volume 1 has lots of options for collaging multiple photos, cards or papers together into one card. Voila! Photo collages, some with journaling strips too, to slip right into that pocket space.

I typically embellish my page after I have placed my photos and cards and papers. I added the big painted ‘feb’ title from Dunia Design’s Monthly Cards set – the months come as painted png files as well as the cards and can be easily added to other cards and pages. As I put my photos on the pages with the cards I noticed that quite a few photos I had picked out for the page had pops of teal or turquoise color in them. The teal color worked well with the greens and peaches to my eye, so I decided to embrace it and make it the focus color in my embellishments too.

So, don’t be afraid to break out of the ‘traditional’ look and themes and try something new, you just might find you really like it! Happy scrapping!
