Hi friends and welcome back to my December Daily 2021 album series! Today I am starting off with a couple of Foundation Pages using the Ali Edwards 2021 product release, and boy was it fun just diving right in! I know not everyone uses Foundation Pages, but I hope that even if you don’t like them that you’ll find some inspiration here. If you’d like to see more from this album series, check out this link: December Daily 2021.
Creating Foundation Pages has been a very helpful tool for me over the years, because it allows me to do all the heavy lifting before the busy month of December begins. This year has been a bit different, and in some very good ways! I am loving the new 10×8 album size. The horizontal orientation offers some fun opportunities to stretch my creative muscles and re-think the design process. That handy dandy design tool, the 2/3’s rule, always helps, so I have been looking for ways to incorporate that into my page designs. The two/thirds rule says to divide your page visually into three quadrants, to create a visual grid. The vellum with the speech bubbles was the first thing I started with, and you can see how they fall into the top two/thirds of the page. My vellum for some reason had a little red thumbprint at the bottom (ha!) so I cut it up and layered the pieces directly on top of a transparency. That transparency is from Studio Calico/Ali Edwards collab called The Good Old Days, and I felt like the sentiment was perfect for it!
My second Foundation Page was really simple – the three transparency circles layered directly over top of the green star patterned paper. The circles will be great homes for a photo and journaling when the time comes. Ali has done similar pages to this in the past, and it’s a fantastic page design! I was surprised to find that I had those three little star brads still in my stash – I cannot remember the last time I used a brad. But that way the transparencies could be flipped out of the way to see what’s underneath.
That is all for today! I will be sharing more pages soon, see you back here then!
