December Daily Days 11 and 12

Days 11 and 12: in which I forgot to number Day 12. Ha!

Anywho, I have Days 11 and 12 to show you today, and I’m going to start by telling you already that I forgot to add the number to Day 12! It really is ok. I’m keeping on. I hope to have my process videos ready for you tomorrow, but for today enjoy these photos. Here is Day 11’s Foundation Page.

These days are both linked. We were working on finishing up the decorations on our tree, and I wanted to document some of the ornaments my mom bought us so many years ago. My starting point is Day 11, where I feature my sister’s ornaments on her own tree.

I took the number 11 and reworked it for the title pocket. My mom loved penguins (the movie Happy Feet was one of her favorites), so this little guy seemed perfect.

My journaling is about how these ornaments, which mom bought for us and for her grandkids each year, link us together in commonality.

Then I took a 2×2 pocket, trimmed off one column, and added a few pictures from her tree. I took a remainder of that transparency from Ali Edwards’ Main Kit and used the circles in the alternating pockets. I freely admit the years I stamped on the photos are estimated, some of the years I have the kids photographed when they received their ornaments (that’s an entire layout or possibly a mini-book by itself!), but these are my best guesses. And that is ok, too.

If those circles look rough, it’s because they are! I tried my circle punches and they weren’t quite heavy-duty enough to get through the transparency. I also used my Coluzzle (remember those?!) and the piece of white stuff you put underneath gave away so the coluzzle blade didn’t want to go all the way through. I did most of it with the Coluzzle, though, and then just trimmed the final edges with my scissors. It was a tedious process but well worth it!

Here is the Foundation Page for Day 12:

For Day 12 I continued the ornament pockets. These are the ornaments on our tree, and I added a photo of the lights in our living room.

If it looks like the left side is bowed, it is! My pages are getting thick and full! But I love these small pockets for highlighting some of my favorite ornaments, and for relating ours to my sisters.

I made a point to back each one with its partner, so the penguin is on the back of the other penguin, the reindeer on the back of the other reindeer, and so forth.

On the right side I had already created the transparency divider, which is actually the gold circle transparency layered on top of a plain transparency, and the Jingle All the Way paper is layered on top. This is a throw-back to the first album I made, remember that whole thing? I had cut so many of my papers down to 5 1.2×5, and this was one of them. So I reworked it and I’m loving it.

Above the photo I added a simple circle with the globe, and it simply says, Around the House. I added a tab from Pretty Little Studio, and called it done. No journaling at all on this day, although the little note on the file tab says what I want to: I love the lights.

I hope you enjoyed taking a peek at these pages! I enjoyed creating them. I try each year to do a layout about some of our ornaments, and this really told a great story about the ornaments in our family that truly have meant so so so much in our lives. Mom really wanted us to have lots of ornaments and she loved Christmas so much, and I’m really happy we have these.

Now go, do, and create, and I’ll see you back tomorrow!

**December Daily is the creative brainchild of scrapbooking genius Ali Edwards, and is a process of documenting December memories by photographing and writing stories each day. To learn more about this project, and find links to shop for products, please visit her website here.

The file tab and today banner are products I ordered from Pretty Little Studio. I highly recommend her products and hope you will visit her lovely shop here.

Within each post I try my best to post links and attribute the products I have used in today’s layout. Sometimes, sadly, those products are no longer available but still deserve attribution. The gold sequin that is underneath the brad on Day 11 is an older Jenni Bowlin product. The heart and star enamel dots are Allison Kreft for Webster’s Pages.
