Art Journal With Me | Volume 05 This Makes Me Smile
Hello Lovelies, today is the day to Art Journal With Me! Recently I have been creating pages in my art journals in a more simplified form in the style of Kristin Tweedale of Awesome Ladies Project. Her idea is to do art once a day, and she strips it down to really minimal yet still gorgeous pages. You can see all of my art journal layouts through this link here: Larkindesign Art Journals. Let’s get started with today’s page!
Gather your supplies. I am working in a traveler’s notebook from Prima, and I also pulled a Prima stencil. I chose Elle’s Studio papers and puffy stickers, and will also use Liquitex modeling paste. The one I am using is a gel, which I really love because it is light and it doesn’t harden in the container like regular paste sometimes does.
I cut my papers to fit my notebook, using the black and white typed page and the floral page. Once I had them glued in, I added the modeling paste using the stencil. A bit of stencil in the upper right corner and a larger part of it in the bottom left creates a diagonal composition for this page design.
Once the paste dried all the way, I mixed up some watercolors in pink, red, and green. These colors are from Studio Calico, and I add a bit of water to them so they will move around the page. Use a small size brush so you can control a bit where the color goes, and then spray more water to watch the color scatter.
I also at times use a paper towel to lift bits of the color back off the page. This helps the layout not be too saturated, ending in curled pages. Once the colors are the way you like them, let them dry. Remember we are not going for perfection, we want a pretty background that adds visual interest. Then add your puffy stickers. I loved using these because they were brighter colors than I used on the background, and they appear to pop off the page. Your eye knows exactly what it is looking at on this page!
I loved how this layout came together. I have used the words in the patterned paper to do some of the heavy lifting of journaling, and then the title refers to all those wonderful words that make me smile. Thanks for joining me today! See you again soon!
