IMP Design Team Melinda Staley | March Pages, Part 2
Melinda here today on the blog showing off my second set pages for March. For these pages I used The Practical Scrapper Life In Bloom kit. I love the pretty pastel colors and the many versions of flowers she included.
This first page is all about the flowers I see when out on my daily walks with the dog. They are everywhere and so pretty! There are many varieties of cherry trees in our neighborhood and the hues of pink against the blue sky are one of my favorite color combos. We have made it up to the Washington DC mall several years when the cherry trees are in full bloom, but this year the timing was just off when full bloom came there so I really tried to soak in all of the local cherry blooms I came across. I stuck with a standard style pocket page from the 365 Unscripted Stitched Grid templates that gave me lots of spots for photos and a few cards. I chose the Rachel Jefferies Flaws and All Mixed Media Artistry set for accent elements to add to the cards. Again, a similar color set complimented the card colors nicely as well as providing a couple of extra accent colors in the peach and navy that went well with the colors in my photos. I always enjoy having a mix of ink, paint marks, and doodles along with the paper, tape, and flower bits to bring visual depth to my pages.
Next I have a 2 page set that the highlights of some of the big things we did during the week my university girl was home for her spring break, and one of the older girls and her husband were here for a short visit too. Each of the things could, and probably should be, its own full page. Maybe I will get to some of those along the way, but it is good to have this summary done at least.
I repeated the choice of pocket pages from 365 Unscripted Stitched Grids 4 with a mix of squares and rectangle pockets from my first March pages for these, but mixed up the starting layouts for each. I altered one of the pocket sizes to fit the taller photos of the Monet painting and moved the stitching this time to fit it. I made a “title” card for our visit to the Virginia Fine Art Museum to see some paintings by Van Gogh, Monet and Degas with multiple layers/colors and strokes of a chunky font. A selection of paper and scrappy bits from the mixed media set finished off this page.
On page 3 I tied the busier photos from the color guard and indoor percussion competition we attended together by using strips cut from a portion of one of the 4×6 cards in the Life In Bloom kit. Thank goodness digital supplies are endlessly usable, as it took me many tries and adjustments to get the proportions of stripes to white space right. Adding a selection of simpler embellishments from the Flaws and All mixed media set, some repeated from previous pages, help keep the page from getting too busy and get the page finished without a lot of fuss.
This odd number of pages for March will be balanced out by a Faves page for the month that I haven’t done yet at the time I am writing this, giving me a total of 6 pages or three 2-page layouts for the month.
